This book is a great resource for office professionals who frequently find themselves managing projects, but have not had any significant training in project management.
While not a book for those who are seeking professional certification as a project manager, it is an excellent resource for the ones I described above.
It provides practical tips and tools which you can (and should) use to manage that next corporate outing, team event, or new software push to your employees.
I have loved this book since I first discovered it over 10 years ago.
Whenever someone asks me to recommend a leadership development book, this is the first one that comes to mind every time, despite having read dozens of others.
I wholeheartedly recommend you read this book. Buy it. Underline sections. Take notes in the margins. This will be foundational to your journey as a manager and leader.
Crucial conversations are like walking through a minefield. There are usually signs to help us recognize them, but if we aren’t looking for them or don’t know how to interpret them, they don’t help us much.
But, we’re not going through them alone. Conversations are with someone else, so it’s more like walking with someone through a minefield, with your ankles tethered together.
If neither of you recognize you’re in a minefield or don’t know how to navigate it, what are your chances of survival?
What if one of you knew? What if both of you knew? How much more likely would you be to survive, or maybe get through unscathed?
This book will give you the tools to better recognize a crucial conversation (minefield) before you’re in the middle of it, and the tools to navigate it in a way that is productive and minimizes potential negative consequences.
